Create charts and tables from a conversation

Turn an answer into something you can inspect

Charts are useful for seeing shape and change; tables are better when you need exact values. Vega can create either one from a conversation, let you switch between them, and open supported results in an interactive chart window for further adjustment.

The quality of that result still depends on the question. Begin with a clear period, metric, and component so the chart does not look precise while representing the wrong scope.

Ask for a visualization

1. Open New Chat.
2. Insert the intended site or component with the @ picker.
3. State the metric, date range, interval, and output format.
4. Ask Vega to identify missing intervals rather than silently filling them.
5. Send the question and wait for the complete response.

For example:

Show daily electricity consumption for @Main Site / Grid Meter from 1 August through 31 August 2026 as a table. Include the unit and flag incomplete days.

To request a chart instead:

Plot hourly load for the same component and period as a line chart. Show the exact time zone and highlight the five highest values.

If Vega returns only prose, follow up with “Create a chart from those results” or “Show the underlying values as a table.” A visualization is most reliable when Vega has already resolved the requested components and found measurements for the period.

Use the inline visualization

Supported chart and table responses have actions in the assistant message:

• Switch chart/table changes the inline presentation without starting a new analysis.
• Open (the external-link button) launches the detailed chart window.
• Export CSV downloads the displayed result for use outside Vega.

The table switch is available only for breakdown results that contain structured rows. An older or static chart may display correctly but not offer a table or editable controls.

Open and adjust the detailed chart window

1. In Chat, locate Vega’s response containing the chart or table.
2. Move to the response actions and select Open, identified by the external-link icon. It sits beside Switch chart/table and Export CSV.
3. Vega opens a separate chart window. The chart or table is on the left and its controls are on the right.
4. Use Chart or Table at the top of the right-hand control panel. Table is disabled when structured rows are unavailable.
5. Review the current Time Period, Time Interval, Metrics, Components, and Breakdown before interpreting the result.
6. Change any required settings.
7. Select Refresh at the bottom of the control panel to run the visualization again with the new data settings.

If the assistant response has no Open action, ask Vega to create a chart or table from the results. Static or older chart formats may not support the interactive chart window.

When a data setting changes, Vega dims the current result and shows Please refresh the chart or Please refresh the table. The dimmed visualization still represents the previous settings. Do not use it until refresh finishes.

Changing only the chart type redraws the current rows immediately. Changes to dates, interval, metrics, components, breakdown, filters, or statistics require a refresh.

Return to the original request

The undo button beside Refresh is labelled Reset breakdown. It restores the parameters with which the visualization was first created and refreshes the result. Use it when several edits have made the scope difficult to follow.

Resetting the detailed chart window does not rewrite the chat response. To preserve a different analytical question in the conversation, ask a follow-up and create a new visualization.

Check the result

Before using a chart or table:

• confirm the title and selected component summary,
• distinguish energy from power and check the unit,
• confirm the displayed time zone and interval,
• look for gaps or partial periods, and
• switch to Table when exact values matter.
